EDTC 6100: Leadership in Digital Education Orientation (1)

This course is an introduction to the Leadership in Digital Education program. Students will familiarize themselves with the University, the School of Education, the SPU Library digital resources, University-adopted digital tools, and program standards.

EDTC 6101: Values, Ethics and Foundations in Digital Education (6)

Offerings

Educators face multiple ethical issues when using educational technology and digital resources. Theological values and perspectives can inform responses to these issues. This course provides an overview of educational technology and examines how Christian theology can be used to shape digital education practices, while helping educational leaders develop a theologically and philosophically informed framework for ethical leadership in digital teaching and learning. EDTC 6102: Digital Learning (6)

Offerings

The first of a two-course sequence addressing research and promising practices related to how to use technology effectively for assessing student learning, differentiating instruction, and providing rigorous, relevant, and engaging learning experiences for all students. Typically offered: Winter.

EDTC 6103: Digital Teaching (6)

Offerings

The second of a two-course sequence addressing research and promising practices related to how to use technology effectively for assessing student learning, differentiating instruction, and providing rigorous, relevant, and engaging learning experiences for all students. In addition, this course will touch on the use of peer coaching to enhance instructional skills. During this course we will address the ISTE Standards for Educators. “These standards will deepen your practice, promote collaboration with peers, challenge you to rethink traditional approaches and prepare students to drive their own learning ISTE” (2017). Typically offered: Spring.

EDTC 6104: Digital Learning Environments (6)

This course addresses research and promising practices related to the creation and support of effective digital learning environments to maximize the learning of all students. Typically offered: Summer.

EDTC 6105: Educational Technology Leadership (6)

Offerings

Becoming a successful educational technology leader is a challenging but not complicated process. Some leaders make the mistake of making top-down decisions without adequate collaboration with the teachers or professors they serve. In this course, you will be introduced to a form of leadership that emphasizes working with the willing and listening before providing advice or making decisions. Peer Coaching is a proven professional learning methodology designed to provide teachers looking to use technology to enable and accelerate deep learning with the support they need. To be successful, coaches need to develop expertise in a variety of domains. Effective peer coaches co-plan learning activities with their learning partners, model or team teach to demonstrate deep, technology-enabled learning and observe and reflect with their collaborating teachers. Participants in this course will have learned and practice the communication, collaboration and lesson design skills they need to be successful coaches and hands-on experience using these skills to co-plan a learning activity with a learning partner at their school. Typically offered: Autumn.

EDTC 6106: Professional Development and Program Evaluation (6)

Offerings

In this course, students learn how to conduct needs assessments, develop technology-related professional learning programs, evaluate the impact on instructional practice and student learning, and communicate findings to the institution. Typically offered: Winter.

EDTC 6107: Capstone: Content Knowledge and Professional Growth (5)

Offerings

In this course, students will learn how to demonstrate competence in professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions in content, pedagogical, and technological areas as well as adult learning and leadership. They will also learn promising practices in how to use technology to continuously deepen their knowledge and expertise.

EDTC 6108: Leadership in Digital Education Practicum (3)

Offerings

This practicum provides students with practical on-the-job experience working with learners, instructors, and others in an educational technology facility, classroom situation, faculty development, or similar setting.

EDTC 6431: Learning with Technology (3)

Offerings

Addresses strategies for promoting effective student use of educational technology through application of research and theory from social learning, cooperative learning and learning styles.

EDTC 6432: Essentials: Computer Authoring (3)

Offerings

Covers development of skills in authoring computer learning materials, production of media materials and creation of interactive multimedia products.

EDTC 6433: Teaching with Technology (3)

Offerings

Provides survey and analysis of current approaches to the planning, use and evaluation of media and computer learning materials.

EDTC 6434: Networking and Telecommunication for Education (3)

Offerings

Examines basic local and wide area networking systems for schools. Explores information literacy, resources and applications with emphasis upon issues related to the design, delivery and evaluation of instruction via networks.

EDTC 6500: Educational Technology for Math and Science (3)

Offerings

Provides experience in the use of technology to solve problems and enhance teaching in math and science. Includes exploration and evaluation of currently available resources and general principles for the choice and use of emerging technologies.

EDTC 6900: Independent Study (1-5)

Offerings

Student works with a faculty member on a mutually agreed upon topic. May be repeated for credit up to 6 credits.
